My 8th grade math students have mostly gotten pretty good at writing equations in slope-intercept form. Sure some still get the reciprocal of the slope, especially when working from horizontal tables and some still struggle to always solve correctly. Overall though, they are so much improved. If they have a weakness though it is on writing an equation from a table, especially when they have to solve for the y-intercept.
They just need more practice and I can’t stop spiraling back to this concept. And they need to know when they are wrong …like immediately. I love using Google SheetsTM to instantly give feedback on student answers. The possibilities are endless when you can populate images to indicate right and wrong answers.
Check out these two that I made for Valentine’s Day. Both have a mix of vertical and horizontal tables but one has the y-intercept given on its tables whereas the other one has students solve for they y-intercept each time.

If a student’s answer is correct, they are instantly rewarded with a colorful Valentine conversation heart with a friendly message.

If they are wrong, they get a gray “snarky” heart. My classes did this prior to Valentine’s Day to test it out before I listed this resource and my students loved it. Even my students who could get them all right were intentionally entering in a wrong answer on each question first just to see the snarky Valentine messages first.

If you think your students would love this like mine did, you can get it here in my TPT shop.
